We lost a very good friend in Bas de Voogd

We are very sorry to inform you that Bas de Voogd passed away. From day one of PreWarCar.com Bas became a very dedicated reader of our articles and wrote several himself.

Interested in automobiles from his very youth, Bas has owned and restored many vehicles, but his interest was especially Ford’s Model T and the MG VA, both automobiles of which he possessed a huge knowledge. He has owned several of them, but a special mention should be the 1936 prototype MG VA with chassis number 0251. A VA that he restored as a perfect example of his skills. In the mid-1990’s Bas was diagnosed with MS and after a few years, he was confined to a wheelchair. That didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for our hobby, he found a new way in the form of collecting fuel cans of which he had an enormous collection. His knowledge of all things fuel-related resulted in the book ‘Van Blik naar Pomp’ describing petrol sales in The Netherlands from 1885 to 1940. Those of us who have had the pleasure to know Bas will remember him for his never-ending optimism.
