What is it? PreWar Christmas Quiz Day 7

We end with a big bang! And probably the most easy one as this is one of the most photographed and filmed cars of the last years. And entirely justified. This is our firework!

What we want from you is the make of the car and the type.

As this is the last one of the Christmas Quiz; From today till January 2nd, we will be welcoming your answers of last weeks quizzes. Good luck!

From all participants with all answers correct (both PreWar as well as PostWar), 4 names will be drawn at random and they will receive the famous PreWarCar.com/ PostWarClassic.com T-shirt.

Good luck and happy motoring in 2019!

Dear prewarcar-team,
find here my solution of this marvellous quiz ...

Day1
Itala GP car from 1908
Three cars had been built, engineered by Alberto Balocco. 100 hp-4 cyl.-engine with a bit over 12.000 cc. The cylinders were iron-cast in pairs. Single lateral camshaft with ioe-valves, four-speed gearbox.
Straightforward steel ladder frame. Live rear-axle. Suspension by semi-elliptic leaf springs and friction dampers. Drum brakes at the back wheels.
The cars were impressive, but too slow. In French GP they finished 11th and 20th, in Coppa Florio one reached a 3rd place.
The Fabbrica Automobili Itala, founded by Matteo Ceirano, produced cars from 1904 until 1935 in Torino.

Day2
The Woodrow was a British cyclecar manufactured in Stockport from 1913 to 1915.
The 8hp-cars manufactured in 1913-1915 were equipped with air- or water-cooled V2 engines from J.A.P. with 964 cc, a three-speed gearbox and a chain to the rear axle. Unlike other small cars of that time, a differential was built into the rear axle. In 1914/15 these engines were supplemented by water-cooled 1090 cc engines supplied by Precision, with resulting 10hp.
We see the short version, that was very large for its class with a length of 3302 mm and a width of 1219 mm. The weight was 356 kg, which was above the limit of cycle cars.
The Woodrow was also available as a sports-version with a longer, forward tapered hood.

Day3
Alvis Car and Engineering Company Ltd was a Coventry, England-based company that produced 1920-1967 high-end automobiles. The company also manufactured aircraft engines and military vehicles.
My guess following the size and vertical orientation of the radiator: Alvis Speed 20/25 built in different lines between 1932 and 1940 with engines from 2.5 liter up to 3.5 liter. Common to all cars was the six-cylinder in-line engine with suspended valves, the chassis-constructions changed. Available with different bodies, also as roadster and tourer, the solid and powerful Alvis-cars of the thirties had very frequently been the basis for specials.

Day4
The Chenard et Walcker Tank z1 Special is one of the 3 prototypes announced by the factory for the 24h of Le Mans of 1925, two raced actually. 4-cylinder-ohc with 1095 ccm, 55 hp, weight just 600 kg, high-speed of more than 150 km/h, with Rootes-compressor 170 km/h.
This car, the n ° 50 participated in the 24h of Le Mans of 1925 and finished 10 ° (Drivers: Raymond Glaszmann and Manso de Zuniga), by traversing 106 laps, that is to say 1882,2 km with the average speed of 78,4 km / h. (Number 49, led by Robert Sénéchal and Loqueheux finished 13 ° with 105 laps.)
Also, these "Tanks" allowed Chenard et Walcker to win, for N ° 49 the triennial cup and for the N ° 50, the Rudge-Whitworth biennial cup since the brand had already finished at the 1st, 2nd and 7th places in 1923, 4th and 5th ranks in 1924.
In 1929 followed the Chenard et Walcker tank y8 1500 sportscar.
Chenard et Walcker was founded in 1900 in Asnieres, existence finished in 1950.

Day5
Bugatti T16 from 1912 had a 5.072 cc overhead valve design with three valves per cylinder (two inlet, one exhaust).. Multi-plate-clutch,four-speed gearbox, chain-drive, transmission brake was fitted to the rear of the gearbox and a handbrake for the rear wheels. Overall four T16 have been built.
In 1912 Bugatti himself drove his car, equipped with an aerodynamic cowled two seater bodywork with the pointed tail at Le Mans and later at the Mont Ventoux Hill Climb where he won his class and finished fourth overall.
Day6
Mercedes-Benz W125 was a Grand Prix racing car designed by Rudolf Uhlenhaut to race during the 1937 Grand Prix season. The supercharged 8cyl-inline-engine with 5,662.85 cc gave up to 595 horse power (444 kW) in race trim. The tubular frame construction had oval tubes made of nickel-chrome molybdenum steel.
The car was used by Rudolf Caracciola to win the 1937 European Championship and W125 drivers also finished in the second, third and fourth positions in the championship. W125 was considered the most powerful race car ever for about 3 decades, until large capacity American-built V8 engines in CanAm sportcars reached similar power in the mid 1960s. In Grand Prix racing itself, the figure was not exceeded until the early 1980s (when Grand Prix racing had become known as Formula One), with the appearance of turbo-charged engines in Formula One. The W125 reached race speeds of well over 300 km/h (190 mph) in 1937, especially on the AVUS in Berlin, equipped with a streamlined body.
In land speed record runs, a Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen was clocked at 432.7 km/h (268.9 mph) over a mile and a kilometer.
Day7
The FIAT S76, later also known as FIAT 300 HP Record and nicknamed "The Beast of Turin", was a car built in 1910 by the Italian company FIAT specifically to beat the land speed record held in those years by the Blitzen Benz. Its 28.353 cc engine delivered 290 hp, the maximum speed was 213 km/h. The S76 had a 4-cylinder engine 3 spark plugs per cylinder, ignition with low voltage magneto, water cooling, transmission with chain, axle suspension rigid with front and rear leaf springs, 4-speed gearbox plus reverse gear.
Two examples were built.

The radiator design of this "prototype" for records was reused by FIAT for subsequent road models.
In 1913 the Beast of Turin was granted an unofficial title of world's fastest car due to this speed, but not made official due to being unable to complete the run within the time limit.
One of the cars had been restored some years ago and raced at the Chateau Impney Hill Climb in 2015 and in 2016 at Prescott Speed Hill Climb.

Thank you for the good entertainment, best regards and good luck in 2019!

Fritz
