What is it? Quiz #415

A reknown photo by the famous French photographer Louis Lumière of a car, of which the identity was hitherto unsolved. Now it is time to finally crack the mystery. The make had its roots in the early French car history but started building cars of their own design only 10 years later. The cars were conventional but well designed and were known under slightly differing names. The make just made it halfway the two world wars. So dive into your analogue and/or digital archives and come up with the name of the make and as many other details possible in just 100 words.
