What is it? Quiz #418

It is a cyclecar. And believe it or not, it is an 'Office Find'. They were found a few years back by one of our most loyal readers. The full story to be expected next week. Be sure not to let deceive yourselves by the Brescia shape  of the radiator. This one was made in the same era but in Britain, not France. The ambitious restorer of these remains will be happy to see that the 3-speed gearbox is there, yet the V-twin engine and a long list of missing odd bits is missing. We see only one wheel, so at least two are missing.

Well, all these troubles are not on your plate, you just need to recognise the radiator in conjunction with the other parts. And then collect the essential information adding up to a maximum of 100 brilliant facts, numbers and/or words. If you know all that and post your answer before Monday, April 18, you have  a fair chance to be the 418th winner of the PreWarCar T-shirt. But first read The Rules under 'Read More'!

The car looks like a TB, a three wheeler made by boiler makers Thomson Bros, Bilston, Staffs. Built in their ex-aircraft department, it was launched in 1919. Originally offered with a JAP or Precision Vee air-cooled twin, with a two speed gearbox and shaft drive to a single rear whee, a water cooled Blackburne engine had arrived by 1921, giving a better performance. In its final year of 1924 the engine was a British Anzani of 1084cc, while price had risen from £200 to £250. Although production ended then, the company continued to make small petrol tankers for use on the airfield.

Hello, the parts shown belong to a TB cyclecar. Boilermakers, Thompson Bros of Bilston, Staffs, offered their TB cyclecar in both air- and water-cooled form with either JAP or Precision engines. Built in their redundant aircraft department works from 1920 until 1924, the car standardised a water-cooled Blackburne engine from 1921, and in it's final year was offered with 1084 cc British Anzani units. It was quite successful in rallies and hillclimbs. Approximately 150 cars were produced, a prototype four wheeled car never entered production. One TB cyclecar survives in the Black Country Museum in Dudley, UK.
(In the past, I was twice winner of the quiz. Next week, I will post a nice period picture of a TB cyclecar) Regards, Luc

1922 T. B. 8-10 hp. Thompson Brothers first mthree-wheeler was introduced in 1919. It had light tubular frame without any cross-members, frame breakage was common on early models. The problem was solved by giving way of brazed to soft-soldered joints. Quarter elliptic front-spring and cantilever rear suspension. Engines were Jap V-twins, the Bugatti Brescia copycat radiator was a dummy on the air-cooled versions. There were both touring and sporst models.
It never caught on and the Thompson Bros. turned to other products, as aircraft fuellers.

I have won twice.
