What is it? Quiz #435

Regular readers will have an advantage when trying to identify this car since a 2016 'seaside' story contained a link to this picture and those with good memories may recall a mention last Christmas?
Once you have identified this British- made car, what can you tell us about it and its history, its engines, its bodystyles and does it have competition history?
There may be extra points available if you explore a possible link with an Island which is not part of UK.

Results will be published next week Saturday, and we look forward to sharing our knowledge of this make with you.

Be sure to first check the rules under read more.

OK, this car is a Deemster, either 10hp or 12hp. They were in production from 1919 to 1924, with perhaps only 600 produced by Ogston Motor Co. in London. The body style suggests this is a 1919-23 10hp 2-seater. The later cars had cleaner lines.

I think it is a Morris Cowley. There were to types of engines 1.5 and 1.8 litre produced under license by Hotchkiss. As regards racing history, I would like to share that I own a Morris Cowley single seater built by Lloyd Shaw that was successfully raced in the 30ies in USA and Canada (http://cmhf.ca/lloyd-shaw/). Deemster. Cannot make out the registration number but recall one in Ulster in the 1960s and 1970s.

I hereby exclude myself from this competition…… as the photo was taken on the promenade at Aberystwyth on the VSCC Light Car Welsh Rally earlier this year and I stewarded the event and am the Editor of the magazine! …… note the carpet under the car, at the request of the Mayor so as to protect the newly laid paving……the promenade had been destroyed by the storms of 2015…...
