What just landed on my radiator? (upd. dealer Ets Bourdon of Montrouge, Paris)

Craig Little has seen these bugs on various French cars from the 1920s through to Citroen Tractions, but has no idea what the story behind them is. 'Bourdon' is French for Bumblebee, right? But what about 'Montrouge'? And what caused them to land on the radiators of so many French cars? Here's to receiving some well-informed answers Cheers!

Hello
I have a little BM-Collection and some information and Fotos about Bourdon Montrouge.
Call me over:
jm.luft(at)t-online.de

The name "Bourdon Montrouge" comes from the Dealer and it´s location.
His name was "CH. Bourdon" in Montrouge, a south part of Paris.
The street, where the Peugeot-garage from Mr.Bourdon was, is not Avenue Bourdon ("Boulevard Bourdon" lies not in Montrouge, she´s near Paris-Center.
The Garage Bourdon was situated in the Ave. Aristide Briand 92, Montrouge.
In any case, in the late 60s, the time of the Peugeot 504 (mailed me for pictures!).
I´m always searching for more information and old pictures or acessoires about this.
With Collector´s-regards
Manfred

Hello, same bumblebee has landed on my 1934 BSA honeycomb radiator! The beekeeper where they flew away long ago was a French Peugeot dealer, Garage Bourdon, Avenue Bourdon in Montrouge (South of Paris). You can find them in different shapes and material. The oldest are made of cast alloy and have the name engraved. Regards, Luc

Apparently the main Peugeot dealer in the Paris region was located on the Avenue de Bourdon in the suburb of Montrouge. The bee started off as a publicity gimmick by the dealer, but became very popular even for owners of other cars than Peugeot.

This little badge was a 1950s publicity item for a Peugeot dealership, called Bourdon, located in Montrouge, a southern suburb of Paris. The name Bourdon is the same as the French word for bumblebee, hence the look of the mascot. It proved popular with owners of cars other than Peugeots.

It is in fact a grille mounted metal advertising ornament (in polished aluminium) originally distributed by a Peugeot dealer in the Southern suburbs of Paris (Montrouge) during the 1950's.

Bourdon because the garage was then located in Avenue Bourdon. This particular advertising object began in the 1950s. The length of the authentic insignia, 8 cm, width of 9 cm wings. For the authentic model, the letters are fine and detailed.
Later a moulded pattern made its appearance, slightly coarser, sometimes with different dimensions.
Machado-RCA, 10 Old Town Hall Street, 78440 Fontenay-Saint-Père.
T. 01.34.79.12.60 now offers a version ready to attach, engraved "Bourdon-Montrouge."
