Today exactly 100 years ago - 15 January 1913 - Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin started a business for building cars in Henniker Mews, London. The name Aston-Martin came only one year later (note the 'score' that dropped out later; when?). The Aston part of the name referred to the Aston Clinton Hill Climb where Robert Bamford had been quite succesfull. We understand the first car made under the now famous name was a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini / Coventry Climax (any photos known?) . The first fully AM development came in 1915, yet production onloy started after WWI in 1920. The car depicted here is the oldest surviving example. Later today a remembrance plate will be attached at the wall of Henniker Mews. It will be the official start of a year full of Aston Martin celebrations. Probably it will be one of the swiftest passing years of the early tens of this century. (photo courtesy Aston Martin Heritage Trust)
