“This is a picture of a 1935 Ford V8 4-door Sedan in front of the garage of Jacob (Jaap) Meinsma in Ureterp/Oerterp, Friesland, The Netherlands. The picture must have been taken around 1948, as that was the year it was replaced with a new 1948 Ford V8 DeLuxe 4-door Sedan. This Ford DeLuxe was used as a Taxi. In the background, on the right, is the house I grew up in and lived from age 3 (1950) until I left to come and live in Bulawayo (1961). The old-style petrol pumps were replaced with more modern electric pumps early in 1950. They were lit up with low-pressure sodium-vapour lamps, which lit up the surrounding area with a brig.” This is what Andre van der Loo wrote to us.
Thank you very much for sharing this lovely little story from your childhood, Andre.
We would love to hear about the cars and motorbikes when you grew up! What was the earliest car in the family you can remember? Where did the family outings go to? Maybe you have anecdotes you would like to share with us. We would love to hear all about it. Maybe you also have an old picture from the family album you can show us?
