Always a scary time, waiting while a precious Mercedes-Benz 380 is being loaded on board. It must be a well-traveled vehicle. Did you notice the two very bald spares? This intriguing photograph was made by Zoltán Glass, one of the great photographers of the 20th century. Automobiles were among his favourite subjects and he could transform seemingly everyday situations like this one into aesthetic compositions. At the instigation of Daimler AG, for whom he took many automotive photographs during the 1920s and 1930s, his work is now being catalogued and digitised by the National Media Museum in Bradord, UK. The Museums collection numbers around 6,000 images in total; the work is scheduled for completion in April 2010. The photographs will then be available for further historical editorial work and projects. (text and photo courtesy Daimler AG)
